Following the unfortunate death of Aaron, we've been reading about the possibility of her home going up for sale (pictured above), probably as a pocket listing. The possible (and debatable) listing has brought up serious comments that used to be jokes, but are now more like jealousy. At least that's with our organizing colleagues and friends who know the value of a well-organized home.
What makes the home so special and why should that be interesting to readers?
Spelling's Holmby Hills Mansion, built in 1991, has 123 rooms and 56,500 square feet of organizing euphoria, including a gift-wrapping room and closets that cover an entire floor. The Los Angeles home is situated on a lovely corner, across from a park and near Westwood's UCLA campus.
We know everyone used to mock her infamous "gift wrapping room" but how many people are laughing now? But 15 years later-- in 2006, we all want one. Anyone who has attempted to use rinky-dink organizing supplies to hold their ribbons, wrap, bows, tags and cards knows of what we're blogging about.
What about the home's bonus level for closets between the second story and the attic? No one is complaining. While the new craze may not be gift rooms, it is certainly true that closets have been reborn into a place for watching tv, enjoying quite time and romance-- no longer the once-humble closet. In our opinion-- who would of thought of such a thing in 1991?
How many of us don't have the space to store neat things we find during the year? She was smart enough to zone the whole mess and (presumably) keep it tidy. Allowing items to sit together will actually save you time because you're not looking for your stuff all over the house. You're also less apt to buying doubles because you can actually see what you have. Brilliant.
This is why we crown Candy Spelling: Mother of Home Organizing Euphoria. Thank you for your inspiration.
