eBay Hosts Closet Clean Out by Actress Tori Spelling

Actress Tori Spelling has hired long-time friend Sharon Yost to help auction off part of Spelling's personal wardrobe on eBay.  Yost and her company hosts larger-scale Estate Sales in the Southern California-area (current client auctions on her website include Bel Air Producer David Wolper and Jane Petty, Rock Star Tom Petty's first wife.)

Tory Spelling's online auction goodies include a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta one-shoulder beaded evening gown with ruffled skirt. a one-of-a-kind Eduardo Lucero long brown evening skirt, Marc Jacobs head shake jean jacket and dresser full of Juice Couture velvet and corduroy jeans.

Tory's downsize has nothing to do with rumors about her parent's house going on sale.  But we suspect Tory may have gotten some Los Angeles closet organizing and downsizing advise from the Mother of Home Organization-- Candy.  In any case, we feel downsizing is a good thing, making room for the things that really matter in your life.

Cedar Trunks - Updated Vintage Storage

We're always on the lookout for stylish, substantial storage for clients (of course, once we've de-cluttered.)  Holly Becker, our friend from decor8 pushed us onto the Garnet Hill website.  We are falling in love with these $220 cedar trunks.  I could imagine them sitting poolside, inside the guest house or cabana.  Store guest towels in the bottom, swim goggles, California Baby and bottled water in the removable storage tray.

 

Organic Organizing - Baskets make from 100% Recycled Plastic

Green Organizing is becoming more and more popular.  While there are products on the market (mostly manufactured by smaller retailers) it's just a matter of time for the big retailers to get on the bandwagon.

This morning, I discovered these colorful Design Public 100% recycled baskets.  Here's a blurb from their website:

"The Organic Basket from Gus Design Group combines two of these equal opposites--order and chaos--into one snazzy product. You see, it’s a rectangular basket (and what’s more orderly than right angles?), 18x16 inches, but it’s made of loopy-crazy-wacky extruded plastic strands (obviously chaotic). It looks like it’s made of Silly String, but it’s strong, and it’s shaped as a container, which helps minimize disorder. I’m telling you, it’s a philosophical statement disguised as a storage accessory."

Who needs formaldehyde anyways.

Time Management - Are You Doing Enough To Really Make a Difference?

The Ask Marilyn Column in last Sunday's Los Angeles Times Parade Magazine had an interesting question and we'd like to share it.  It has everything to do with organizing, and creating new habits.  We'll post the entire question and answer here, breaking every copyright law known in media.  But you can click here to check out Marilyn vos Savant's other archives and her new online headquarters

Question:

"Please settle an argument. My friend believes that if you take a single vitamin, you will be just a little healthier than if you never had taken one. Or if you park a car inside a garage only two or three times, its body will be in better condition than if you hadn’t, even if the difference is so small you can’t see it. His reasoning is that something is always better than nothing. I disagree. What do you think? —Gary Manata, Carlsbad, Calif."

Answer:

"I think he’s wrong. The difference must be large enough to matter in some way—any way—or nothing is “better.” Something has been lost: time. Whether your friend is taking a vitamin or parking his car, he is spending precious time—which is a limited resource—and maybe money. Too many people spend time and money pursuing lots of goals just a little. - Marilyn"

Camisoles - Stop Them From Slipping Off (Your Hangers, That Is)

Normally we don't talk too much about "do-it-yourself" projects, or cheapy solutions.  Mostly because we believe you get what you pay for.  You also need a lot of time for trial-and-error.

But we found this great idea while sitting poolside this weekend:  Let's say you've got one or two camisoles you need to hang-- do you REALLY want to schlep all across town just to pick up a hanger or two?

Real Simple Magazine suggest you use a rubber band on the hanger (see picture, above).

Use this neat solution first-- but here's our tip-- use a bright-colored rubber-band, like the one in the picture.  Also, if you're not using new bands, make sure you pull out your method and clean 'em.
